One more service among the member services of Kotopola Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society is tea leaf collection. The primary objective of this is to provide the highest price for the raw tea leaves produced by the member community. Accordingly, the then Honorary President of the Society Mr. Mahinda Vidanapathirana started collecting tea leaves from 43 cooperative regions. The start was a success and it gradually increased in membership and quantity of tea leaves collected. The need for a tea factory hall arose to fruition the idea of giving more money to the members who gave more tea leaves. Koplanka Tea Factory is located in Waralla village near Galle road, Deniya in Matara District. It is 10 km away from Deniyaya city and 61 km away from Galle.

In 1992, construction began on the Koplanka Tea Factory, led by the then Honorary President, Mr. Mahinda Vidanapathirana. On June 28, 1993, it was inaugurated by Mrs. Hema Premadasa, wife of the President, Mr. R. Premadasa, under the name Koplanka Tea Factory. Subsequently, it underwent renovations during the tenure of Honorary President Mr. Bandu Ranawaka (1995-2018), expanding its production capacity with new machinery. A new tea plantation, spanning 5 acres in Madaramulla, was initiated adjacent to the factory.

Under the guidance of Mr. Priyantha Manoj Jayawardena, the current Honorary President, the factory has been modernized with electronic machinery, increasing daily tea production to 12,000 kg. Approximately 2,500 small tea plantation owners from the Sinharaja Mountains area, spanning Ratnapura, Galle, and Matara districts, supply leaves to the factory. The fertile soil and water sources around the Sinharaja forest result in high-quality tea leaves, offering growers substantial income. ISO 22000 and 5S/GMP certifications have been achieved, and a nursery with 200,000 tea plants aims to provide top-quality plants to factory members at affordable rates, fostering economic sustainability.
